In September 2018, we were successful in securing a £350,000 contract for the Ministry of Defence. After our in-house Health and Safety Advisor completed in-depth method and risk assessments, we got approval to start the works in December 2018, for a duration of 12 weeks.

The works involved the uplifting of three below ground tanks (consisting of two 20,000L diesel tanks and one 10,000L unleaded tank) and then the excavation after all permits had been authorised.

The site was re-developed, giving them three brand new 20,500 litre tanks, 5 new Pumptronics fuelling pumps, a new 10,000L interceptor and S150 ACO drainage. The gauging system was the new TLS450 Plus Gilbarco range, which constantly monitors the moving of fuel.

Contamination
and de-gassing project

O’Connell Site Services have a wealth of experience providing a professional service to our many customers, which range from uplifting fuel from below ground tanks to excavation works.

The work featured was carried out for a Ministry of Defence site, and took four days to complete. This project involved removal of contaminated water, and then de-gassing using a vacuumed regulated tanker.

The area was CAT scanned and the excavation works commenced, allowing our team to remove a 18,000-litre tank. A soil sample was then taken for the WAC (Waste Acceptance Criteria) test needed, allowing the soil to be returned un-contaminated. On the last day, grass seed was raked in and all plants and fencing was removed ready for the next site.

After this project, O’Connell Site Services was added to the MOD’s tender list, which allowed them to tender for projects in the region of £1,000,000.
